How to Get Around Lusaka Using Public Minibuses

Minibuses (often called 'combis') are the backbone of public transport in Lusaka, connecting most parts of the city cheaply and frequently.

How it works

1. Find your route. Minibuses run fixed routes between major bus stations (like Kulima Tower, City Market, or Millennium) and surrounding compounds — ask locals or station staff which route covers your destination.

2. Wait at a recognized stop. Minibuses pick up and drop off along their route, not just at the terminus — stand where other people are waiting.

3. Confirm the fare. Fares are usually fixed per route and paid in cash to the conductor once you're seated or as you disembark.

4. Signal your stop. Call out or knock on the roof/window when you're approaching your stop so the conductor knows to let you off.

5. Travel light and stay alert. Keep valuables secure, especially during peak hours when buses fill up quickly.
